Balloon Weights
The Silver Balloon Association introduced the balloon weights as to help stop legislation from banning foil
balloons in California. Originally they were made of cardboard and were printed with warnings on them. Today
balloon weights are used on all sizes and shapes of balloons.
The major reason for the weight is so the balloon doesn’t go flying off into the sky. Nothing is sadder to see
than a small child’s balloon flying away.
Balloon weights come in different weights for different sizes of balloons. To get an exact weight, hold down one
or more balloons and add up the weight needed for each balloon. Balloon weight can be sold, and are not really
expensive. They can be painted and put into a gift bag along with the balloons.
Putting a ribbon on the balloon weights is an ideal way to attach to the balloon. If you own your own store, try
putting your label on the ribbon or have them made up with your label. Or just a pretty ribbon tied to the balloon
weights will add a bit of color and charm.
Usually children receive balloons for their birthday parties. All balloon weights must follow the stringent rules
of the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission). Those little balloon weights shaped like stars are not recommend
as they do not follow those safety guidelines. And because of that they are extremely hard to find today
.
Balloon weights are just that, it is a weight that holds down the balloon. Latex and foil balloons are heavy, so if
buying a cheaper weight, where is the savings? Buy a good solid weight for the balloons and you can not go wrong.
Balloon weights come in many different weights, ranging from regular weights (eight to ten grams) and the jumbo
weights (from one hundred and thirty grams to one hundred and fifty grams.
You can either buy a balloon weight for each balloon at the party or you can make them yourself. Making them
your self can be a lot less expensive than buying them. For say a baby shower, go to the craft store and pick up
straight pins that have cute little animal figures on them, plastic cups the color of the theme of the baby shower,
plaster of paris and that is it. If you want, cut down the plastic cups to a smaller size; fill the cup with the
plaster of paris about three fourths full. Let the plaster of paris set for just a bit and then insert the pin in
the middle of the cup. Let it then set completely and there you have your pretty balloon weights.
Or just using sand in a cup or fill the cup with bird food make great balloon weights. Once the party is over,
empty the cups onto the ground. The birds will love you for that one. Or use soda cans, covering them with cool
looking paper and tie the balloon them. Once the party is over, tell the kids they can drink the balloon weights. A
lot of teenagers really go for that. Balloon weights are sold almost everywhere party items are sold. Look where
the balloons are and you will probably find them there.
